A body of a man has been found by emergency services who were looking for a missing swimmer in a lake.

The body was pulled from the water at Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester shortly before 20:50 BST, Gloucestershire Police said.

A spokesperson said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and the coroner and the man’s next of kin had been informed.

The search began when a man was reported missing at about 13:40 BST.

Police said the National Police Air Service (NPAS), Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) and the fire service were also involved in the search.

Earlier, Joanne Pendlebury, from Waterland Outdoor Pursuits, which owns part of the lake said she believed a man had followed his dog into the water.

“We went in with our power boats to assist with the search until the emergency services took control,” she said.

BBC Points West reporter Andy Howard said the search was concentrated near trees at the edge of an area of water known as Lake 32.
